Areas of scientific activity of the department staff
The department’s research activities are focused on the following areas:
- theory and methods of data analysis in arbitrary systems;
- development of effective IT projects and programs for computerization of production;
- creation of advanced technologies for intelligent data analysis;
- design and development of computer information and analytical systems;
- design and development of expert systems for computer monitoring in economics, technology, and life sciences.

Current projects in fundamental scientific research, scientific and technical (experimental) development
Two projects by researchers from our department won the competitive selection process for fundamental scientific research, applied scientific research, and scientific and technical (experimental) developments involving higher education institutions and scientific institutions under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in 2024.
– Yuriy Oleksandrovych Usenko (topic: “Development of a new portable laser polarization-fluorescence field system for rapid pre-medical diagnosis of septic complications in military personnel wounds”);
– Olar, Oleksandr Valeriyovych (topic: “Development of a new system of polarization correlometry of blood films for rapid determination of blood loss in wounded patients”).

Completed research project grants
Competition “Support for Research by Leading and Young Scientists” of the National Research Fund of Ukraine
Many serious diseases can be overcome—all that is needed is to diagnose them at an early stage and prescribe the right treatment. New methods and devices for early diagnosis are being developed by scientists at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University. Their project, “New methods and systems for multifunctional Mueller matrix polarization and fluorescence tomography of micro- and nanostructures of biological crystal networks,” won the National Research Foundation of Ukraine’s “Support for Research by Leading and Young Scientists” competition and received grant funding before the war. The Department of Computer Science has completed another Grant from the President of Ukraine!
Thanks to the entire staff of the Department of Computer Science and colleagues from the Departments of Mathematical Control and Cybernetics and Computer Systems and Networks, a great deal of work has been done within the framework of the research project “Multiparametric methods of differential Mueller matrix tomography of optically anisotropic layers of biological tissues and fluids.” This project was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the State Fund for Fundamental Research. The main idea was to use information methods of optical image analysis for the early diagnosis of diabetes in humans.
